Beaches
There are plenty of beaches to visit on Waiheke Island. You can choose one of the more popular golden sand beaches such as Oneroa, Little Oneroa, Palm Beach or Onetangi; or opt for a more secluded setting such as Church Bay, Rocky Bay or Man O’ War Bay.
Fishing
The Hauraki Gulf has an abundance of fish from snapper and John Dory to Kawai and kingfish. Whether you like to fish for sport or recreation, you’ll find what you need on Waiheke Island with full or half day fishing charters available; or bring your own gear and find yourself the perfect fishing spot.
Vineyard Tours
A trip to Waiheke just isn’t complete without visiting some of the vineyards on offer. Waiheke’s thriving wine industry produces many award-winning wines and many of the vineyards also offer delicious cuisine to complement their wines. Vineyards include Kennedy Point, Stonyridge, Cable Bay, Mudbrick, Obsidian and Goldwater Estate to name only a few.
Sea Kayaking
Kayaking is a great way to explore the Hauraki Gulf and discover the serene bays and beaches that Waiheke has to offer. Take a guided tour along to coastline, or paddle at your leisure and stop for a picnic in a secluded cove – the choice is yours.
Bushwalks
Waiheke Island is the perfect place to get away from the stresses of everyday life and go exploring. Walkways on Waiheke have something to offer everyone, whether you take a coastal route and enjoy the spectacular views of Waiheke and the Hauraki Gulf; or a more serene bush setting to take in birdlife and/or archaeological sites.
Shopping
There are a wide range of retail shops on Waiheke Island, selling everything from contemporary homewards and décor to clothing and jewellery. The main shopping village is situated in Oneroa just up from the Matiatia ferry; or you can venture a little further to Ostend where you’ll find a mix of both shops and cafes, and the Woolworths supermarket.
Art & Crafts
Waiheke is home to many talented artists and a vast array of works can be found across the island. There are many different artworks on display such as sculpture and ceramics, NZ paintings, jewellery, ornamentia, and wall hangings. Works can be viewed in public showrooms such as the Waiheke Community Arts Gallery in Oneroa, or the Red Shed in Palm Beach; or you can view works in artists’ own studios.
Market
Each Saturday the Waiheke Market is held in Ostend next to the RSA. There is a lot on offer from clothing, books, plants, and art & crafts; or you can try some of the locally made delicacies such as artisan breads, crepes, wood-fired pizza, ginger beer, and olive oil. The market is the perfect way to experience a wide selection of what Waiheke has to offer.
Leisure/Team Building
Need fun yet challenging activities to entertain your family or group – then Waiheke has it covered. Wild on Waiheke has a unique setting and offers archery and laser claybird shooting, as well as a kid’s playground, swingball, petanque and so much more.
Team building activities are also available and are ideal for corporate groups, families, or hen/stag outings.
Besides all the fun the activities, you can also enjoy wine from the “Topknot Hill” label and “Waiheke Island Brewery” beers made on the premises. Wild on Waiheke also have a unique “Taste Waiheke” area which showcases Waiheke products/arts and crafts which are for sale as well as offering free sampling of locally made olive oils, chutneys, sauces and spreads.
